Filantro Font Family

Filantro Font Family is a family of ultra-contemporary display fonts for use in advertising, branding, packaging, and editorial work. As is immediately apparent, Filantro is a condensed design whose terminals are always rounded. While those terminals are reminiscent of serifs, the flowing nature of the contours in Filantro’s letterforms makes it difficult to determine where the strokes would end and where the terminals would begin. In fact, however, the flowing nature of this typeface’s design—almost entirely devoid of straight lines—is its most significant benefit. It channels the original Art Nouveau designs of the 1890s and 1900s and, at the same time, their revival in the 1960s and ’70s. Doesn’t Filantro look like it’s wearing billowed-sleeve shirts and bell-bottom trousers? In fashion, those clothes come back every generation, and a similar phenomenon is often underway typographically. If you squint, Filantro looks similar to Herkules, an 1899 design from the Haas Type Foundry in Basel, Switzerland. Herkules, thanks to its swelling Art Nouveau forms, was quickly picked up by foundries in other countries. During the early 1970s, Herkules was revived for phototypesetting and dry-transfer lettering and quickly became a staple of advertising once more. Now that typography is once again in the warm embrace of flowing Art Nouveau styles, Filantro is here for a starring role on today’s pages and screens. The fonts are an excellent choice for magazine title pages, headlines in print and online, and for product names in all media. The letterforms’ rounded terminals give text set in Filantro a quite friendly appearance, too.
