Geotunda Font

Geotunda Font reimagines the traditional Rotunda-style blackletter through a geometric lens, resulting in a distinctive hybrid that feels both historical and contemporary. The design draws initial inspiration from the charming imperfections of an old over-inked stamp, where excess ink turned some counters into circular shapes. These irregularities became the foundation for a softer, more approachable blackletter structure.

Geotunda also takes cues from modern reinterpretations of blackletter, such as Satanick, which explore new ways to soften or stylize gothic forms. These references help shape a typeface that balances the texture and rhythm of medieval script with the clarity of geometric construction.

While Geotunda retains the core contrast and calligraphic rhythm of traditional blackletter, it avoids the rigidity often associated with the genre. Its open counters, rounded forms, and simplified structure introduce a friendly tone while preserving a sense of historic depth. Though primarily a display typeface, it maintains strong legibility at medium sizes—making it suitable for editorial headlines, logos, posters, and more.

Geotunda brings warmth and visual intrigue to blackletter typography by bridging the expressive traditions of the past with the structural clarity of contemporary design.
