Narwa Font

Narwa Font is a broad display type with a medieval touch and a lot of weights. The inspiration was a combination of Rudolf Koch style lettering, some old book covers and masthead from a printed tour guide of Narva, Estonia circa 1920s. Those early sketches were then simplified into more geometric forms and given a photo-type twist of touches like over-tight spacing, and imposing vertical metrics.

The stylised jagged cuts and flaring strokes combined with the angle of stress and stroke contrast mean the type can feel both carved and written. The large x-height and generous broad letters give Narwa a big confident feeling. Useful for headlines, display lettering and logos Narwa is great for projects that need a confident historical touch.
