Subway Font is Dieter Steffmann’s own 2001 take on the Cooper Black style — the chunky rounded slab lettering Oswald Bruce Cooper made famous in the 1920s and the 1970s turned into a poster staple. It is drawn in that idiom, not traced from the commercial Cooper Black: the skeleton matches (soft double-story a, epsilon-style ampersand, squat rounded S), but the details are his own — a differently built g, a sweeping tail on the y, a long curved tail on the Q. Two cuts, Black plus a matching Shadow for layered headlines, with full upper and lower case and figures. Made for posters, logos, and retro designs.
