Hitobito is a free font that is inspired by bitmap and pixel fonts, which is a font style that is no stranger to me, as I have been using it to create forum signatures and avatars in my early design careers. I love pixel font because it’s a representation of how we can construct with the bare minimum, and also its association with games.
One of my favourite games, FEZ, is also a pixel style game. The name hitobito, means people in Japanese. I imagine the deconstruction of the walking people on the busy street as pixel characters, similar to the many alphabets. The “bit” in the hitobito, is also one of the main reason I chose this name too.
Hitobito font comes with basic latin characters including uppercases, lowercases, numbers and selected punctuations. Hitobito is free and it’s suitable for display and as wordmark. You can download it for free for personal and commercial use.
