Empress Font

Empress Font (formally known as Vilaage) is a versatile flared serif derived from the lettering found around Hackney Village, just north of Victoria Park in East London. The lettering found around the Village ranges in width and weight, but are unified by ornamental and luxurious characteristics, predominantly the drooping crossbar found in the A and H – these are reflected in this typeface through stylistic sets.

Empress comes with 12 styles, from a thin to black, with italic counterparts – each one imbued with character and movement. The regular weight reflects the most common style found around the Village, with flared serifs and generous proportions. It’s intended for display use but still performs well at smaller sizes.

Empress supports Cyrillic and extended Latin across all weights and styles.

Additional glyphs include basic punctuation, symbols, currency, some ornaments, a floral heart, a handful of ligatures and a cat.
